Altman: Musk Sought Hereditary Control of OpenAI

Musk allegedly suggested that authority over the ChatGPT creator could eventually pass to his own children.

The testimony occurred in a California federal court where Musk accuses Altman of violating the nonprofit mission.

Altman claimed Musk pushed for a for-profit transition and wanted to lead the new corporate structure.

One proposal even involved turning OpenAI into a subsidiary of electric vehicle maker Tesla.

The co-founders rejected these demands to prevent any single individual from dominating artificial general intelligence.

Musk eventually left the board in 2018 after failing to secure a majority stake or leadership role.

Altman recalled an email where Musk predicted the venture would ultimately fail without his direct involvement.

The jury continues to weigh these conflicting accounts of the high-stakes power struggle for AI supremacy.
