Meta Introduces New Smart Glasses: The Price May Not Be Appealing

Meta is preparing to introduce its next-generation smart glasses at its annual Connect event. Codenamed “Hypernova” and expected to launch under the name “Celeste,” the glasses will feature a small digital screen on the right lens. Analysts predict the device will retail for approximately $800.

This new model is part of Meta’s vision of AI-powered augmented reality. However, the high price tag may deter buyers.

The company’s previous collaborations, the Ray-Ban and Oakley series, were more affordable and sold approximately two million units.

The event will also showcase the first wristband controlled by hand gestures, an updated Ray-Ban series, and new AI features. Some leaks even suggest the device might have a Prada design.

Meta plans to launch its “Orion” glasses in 2027. CEO Mark Zuckerberg says smart glasses will be the main way to integrate superintelligence into daily life.

However, the company faces criticism due to its child safety policies and the risky use of AI chatbots. Analysts note that the design of the new glasses may be cumbersome and sales may be limited to only a few hundred thousand units. Nevertheless, this step is considered an important milestone in Meta’s long-term expansion into the mass market by attracting developers to the ecosystem.
