Sam Rivers, a founding member and bassist of the famous nu metal band Limp Bizkit, has passed away at the age of 48. The cause of death has not yet been announced.
In a social media post, the band described Rivers as “not just a bassist, but the soul of the band.” The statement read, “From the first note, Sam brought a unique light and rhythm. He was a talented, unforgettable, and big-hearted person.”
Founded in 1994, Limp Bizkit consisted of Fred Durst, John Otto, DJ Lethal, Wes Borland, and Sam Rivers.
The group’s blend of hip-hop and rock style left its mark on the late 1990s and is considered one of the movements that brought heavy music into the mainstream. Rivers won the Gibson Award for “Best Bassist” in 2000. In their statement, the group emphasized that he touched many people with his musical legacy and philanthropic work. DJ Lethal appealed to fans, saying, “We ask that Sam’s family’s privacy be respected.” Limp Bizkit released their new single “Making Love to Morgan Wallen” in September and performed at the Reading Festival in August. The band’s last album, Still Suck, was released in 2021.
