China’s Zhipu AI: Full superintelligence not possible until 2030.

Zhipu AI, one of China’s leading artificial intelligence startups, has stated that it is unlikely that “artificial superintelligence” (ASI) will fully surpass human intelligence by 2030. The company’s CEO, Zhang Peng, noted that the concept is very vague, saying, “It may surpass humans in some areas, but it will still lag behind in many others.”

Zhipu AI, a startup that emerged from Tsinghua University in 2019, has quickly become a leader in China’s artificial intelligence race.

The company announced its plans to go public on Chinese stock exchanges last April and was identified as a rising competitor by OpenAI in June.

Finally, Zhipu, which launched the GLM-4.6 major language model, announced that it offers stronger performance in software development, reasoning, typing, and “agent” applications. The company also aims to diversify its direct revenue channels with a new coding subscription package for developers.

Although Chinese consumers remain reluctant to pay for AI, Zhang believes that this will change in the coming years with greater adoption of AI services and falling prices.
