Embraer Workers’ Strike: Company Says “Production is Proceeding Normally”

The union representing metalworkers at Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has announced an indefinite strike. Workers at the headquarters and main production line in Sao Jose dos Campos claim the company has refused to grant a real wage increase.

Although the union stated the strike halted production, the company announced that the facilities were “operating normally”. The strike comes at a critical time as Embraer is trying to increase production to meet its annual targets. The company aims to deliver 77-85 jets by the end of the year.

The union demanded an 11% wage increase, while the employer’s offer of a 5.5% raise was rejected. The union also claimed that the employer raised the issue of reducing job security for employees who suffered workplace accidents.

Embraer announced record orders and profits this year. The union reiterated its demands, saying, “It’s time for those working on the production line to share in this success.”
