At a presidential meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, China and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to promoting free trade and multilateral cooperation amid global economic uncertainty. The two countries signed 20 agreements to deepen their partnership.
According to state television CCTV, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that the two countries must stand together against unilateralism, protectionism, and repressive tactics. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, meanwhile, stated that their relationship had “never been more vital,” highlighting the importance of the ties between the two countries.
This announcement was broadcast on Brazilian state television.The leaders spearheaded the signing of several protocols, including key agreements aimed at increasing Brazil’s agricultural exports to China. Lula is participating in a high-level forum during his four-day official visit to China, which also includes leaders from other Latin American and Caribbean countries, such as Chilean President Gabriel Boric and Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
This visit marks Lula’s third meeting with Chinese President Xi since his re-election in 2023, signaling Brazil’s growing relationship with China, its largest trading partner. At a business forum Lula attended in Beijing on Monday, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Agency announced it had secured new Chinese investment worth approximately 27 billion reais (approximately $4.8 billion).
