Amazon has launched a massive computing project called Project Rainier to strengthen its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Amazon’s cloud service AWS (Amazon Web Services) is developing this supercomputer infrastructure, spread across numerous data centers across the US, to meet the increasing processing power needs of artificial intelligence models.
The Rainier system houses approximately 500,000 Amazon-made Trainium2 chips, making it one of the world’s most powerful AI computing clusters.

Anthropic and Claude Model

Amazon-backed Anthropic uses this infrastructure to develop the Claude AI Amazon is training and developing its model. The company will scale the model using over 1 million Trainium2 chips on AWS by the end of the year. Amazon stated that the Rainier project will also power future Claude versions.

A New Stage in AI Competition

Amazon’s move is seen as a strong step in the AI infrastructure race against competitors like Microsoft and Google Cloud.

Rainier is positioning Amazon not only at the center of cloud computing, but also of global AI innovation.
