Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Teresa Mera, announced that the new tariff exemption implemented by the US covers more than 100 products in the country’s agricultural export basket, and these products generated approximately $1.2 billion in exports last year.
Last week, US President Donald Trump withdrew tariffs on more than 200 food products, including staples such as coffee, beef, bananas, and orange juice.
This step is seen as a relief measure for American consumers concerned about rising food prices. According to Mera’s ministry statement, the products included in the exemption account for approximately 24% of Peru’s exports to the US. However, blueberries, the country’s largest agricultural export item to the US market, were not included in the new exemption list. Data from the Ministry of Commerce shows that Peru’s exports to the US have increased this year. Sales reached approximately $6.7 billion in the January-September period, an 8.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
