Qatar LNG Shutdown to Disrupt Global Gas Supply for Weeks

Qatar will fully halt gas liquefaction operations on Wednesday, delaying exports of super-chilled LNG and disrupting global energy markets for at least a month.

Sources familiar with the situation said the shutdown will significantly impact Qatar’s liquefied natural gas production, one of the world’s most critical energy supply chains.

State producer QatarEnergy has already stopped gas processing and declared force majeure on LNG exports, signaling potential contractual delivery disruptions.

The company has not responded to requests for comment regarding the operational halt or the timeline for restoring production.

According to sources, Qatar’s key Ras Laffan industrial complex will completely shut down liquefaction activities on Wednesday.

Initial estimates indicate the facility will require at least two weeks before it can restart LNG processing operations.

Even after restarting, experts expect another two weeks will be necessary to restore full export capacity.

The disruption could tighten global LNG supply and add pressure to international energy markets, already facing heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
