Charli XCX described her collaboration with legendary musician John Cale as “powerful enough to bring tears to your eyes.”

Pop star Charli XCX said her new collaboration with music legend John Cale brought her to tears.

The song “House,” from the soundtrack of the artist’s new film “Wuthering Heights,” which is set to be released in 2026, is the first track from the film. The song includes a conversational section by Cale, a founding member of “The Velvet Underground,” beginning with the line, “I think I’m going to die in this house.” Charli XCX, who made the announcement on Instagram, stated that Cale is a fan of the legendary 1960s band “The Velvet Underground.” “Hearing Cale’s voice… it was so elegant and at the same time so harsh that it deeply affected me,” she said. The singer explained that she was inspired by a documentary that she described as “elegant and ruthless” regarding Cale’s songwriting process, and that’s why she sent him her own compositions. Shortly after, the two got in touch, and Cale sent a special poetry recording for “House.” Charli said, “I cried at that moment. It was incredible to hear your voice in my song.” The music video for the new single shows Charli XCX performing in a house in the woods while Cale stands over her and reads the lyrics. The artist said that after the success of his sixth album, Brat, which made a cultural impact, it was “exciting to dive into a whole new world.”

83-year-old John Cale is among the founding members of The Velvet Underground along with Lou Reed, Moe Tucker, Sterling Morrison, and Nico. The group is known for inspiring artists such as David Bowie, Nirvana, and Arctic Monkeys.

The new Wuthering Heights adaptation is described as a psychological thriller starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, and directed by Emerald Fennell.

However, some critics argue that the film’s “character choices are not consistent with the original novel.”
