Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that there are no active discussions regarding the sale of the company’s most advanced AI chip, Blackwell, to China. The US administration had banned the sale of this chip on the grounds that it could strengthen the Chinese military and the local artificial intelligence sector.
Although there has been talk in recent weeks that the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping could result in a limited sales agreement, no signs of a compromise have yet been seen.
“We currently have no plans for any shipments to China,” said Huang, adding, “The return of Nvidia products to the Chinese market depends on China’s decision.”
The US only allowed Nvidia to sell its H20 chip in China. However, according to Huang, China doesn’t want Nvidia, and therefore the company’s share of the advanced AI chip market in the country is zero.
During his visit to TSMC in Taiwan, Huang said, “Things are going very well, I came to support my friends.” He also stated, regarding Tesla’s chip manufacturing plans, “It’s extremely difficult to do advanced manufacturing like TSMC, but the demand for this technology is very high.” Huang also corrected his statement, which was interpreted as “China will win the AI race”: Watch the quote –> “I said China has strong AI technology, not that it has won.” Huang emphasized that 50% of the world’s AI researchers are in China. He stated that competition has intensified:
“The US must continue to advance at an incredible pace; because the world is now very competitive.”
