Taylor Swift delivered a new message in music with “Actually Romantic”: “Attention is a kind of love.”

Taylor Swift has revealed that her song “Actually Romantic” from her new album “The Life of a Showgirl” is “a love letter to someone who hates you.”

Following the album’s release, fans are trying to figure out who Swift is referring to in this song.

On social media, the most talked-about theory is that the song is a reference to Charli XCX.

“Even hate is a sign of interest”

Speaking at a special cinema screening held alongside the album, the 35-year-old singer explained the meaning of the song with the following words:

“For someone to do so much about you, to think so much about you… that’s actually very sweet. Even if it’s negative, it’s a kind of interest.”

In the song, Swift says another pop star called her “boring Barbie” and wrote hateful things about her. “All this effort, actually, is romantic,” she adds.

These lyrics are thought to be a response to Charli XCX’s song “Sympathy is a Knife” from her latest album Brat. In that song, Charli describes her jealousy towards a woman she met at her boyfriend’s concert. Her then-boyfriend, now husband, George Daniel, was the drummer for The 1975 — Swift had briefly dated the band’s lead singer, Matty Healy.

Fans are divided

While some fans think “Actually Romantic” is a subtle but clever rematch, Charli XCX fans argued that Swift “damaged feminist solidarity.”

Neither artist has yet to release this She did not confirm the claims. Moreover, Swift praised Charli last year, saying, “I’ve admired her melodic wit since 2011.” However, with the release of the song, the question “Is the Swift-Charli rivalry starting again?” has resurfaced on social media.
