Chilean President Gabriel Boric has made it clear that Chile will not retaliate despite rising global trade tensions. Instead, he stressed that the country’s strategy will focus on strengthening regional integration across Latin America.
Speaking at the Brazil-Chile Business Forum in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, Boric highlighted the importance of establishing closer relations between South American countries.
He stated that customs procedures should be simplified and the logistics and supply chain infrastructure across the region should be strengthened by attracting investment.“We will respond not with retaliation, but with greater integration,” said Boric, emphasizing that regional cooperation is the most effective response to external trade pressures.
One of the key projects highlighted by Boric was the Capricorne Bioceanic Corridor — this strategic land corridor connects Brazilian ports on the Atlantic coast to Chilean ports on the Pacific coast. Boric described this corridor as a concrete example of the potential for deeper connectivity within the continent.
Also, Boric touched upon Chile’s ongoing trade negotiations with India, stating that his country is in a strong position in terms of access to Pacific and Asian markets.
Brazilian Planning Minister Simone Tebet stated that the infrastructure on the Brazilian side of the Bioceanic Corridor is expected to be completed within two years.
