Elon Musk sought the support of his rival Mark Zuckerberg for his $97.4 billion OpenAI offering earlier this year, but the Meta CEO did not participate in the initiative. This information emerged in court filings.
Documents submitted by OpenAI indicate that Musk contacted Zuckerberg regarding potential funding or investment. However, Meta objected to OpenAI’s request, arguing that the documents should be requested from Musk and his AI startup xAI.
In court documents, OpenAI emphasized that the correspondence with Meta “could shed light on the motivations behind the offer.” Meta, however, claimed that these communications were “irrelevant.”
Previously, US Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers had ruled that Musk should face the allegations against OpenAI.
Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, citing the company’s shift to a for-profit model, and OpenAI filed a countersuit against Musk in April. The jury trial between the parties will take place in the spring of 2026.
