Switzerland Makes Moves to Increase Competitiveness After US Tariffs

The Swiss government has announced it will take new steps to strengthen the country’s attractiveness for businesses following the 39% tariffs imposed by the US.

Under the plan, the regulatory burden on Swiss companies will be reduced, and new rules that impose high costs on businesses may be postponed. Furthermore, the plan aims to increase geographical diversification and strengthen companies’ access to alternative international markets.

Approximately 10% of Swiss goods are affected by the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Although the pharmaceutical sector and some other areas are currently exempt, the government has stated that this could have serious consequences for some companies.

Nevertheless, Bern does not expect the country’s economy to slide into a global financial crisis or pandemic-like recession. The government has pledged to resolutely advance its reform agenda to protect the economy.
